Ministry Services: Churches & Ministry Leaders

Ministry Services: Churches & Ministry Leaders

Stronger Marriages. Stronger Families. Stronger Churches. Stronger Communities. Stronger Nation.

The local church is uniquely positioned to strengthen marriages and families before couples reach crisis.

Yet many pastors and ministry leaders are carrying a growing need:

Couples need support.
Engaged couples need preparation.
Marriage ministries need structure.
Leaders need trusted resources.
Church teams need training to respond wisely when trauma, abuse, crisis, or complex relational concerns surface.

And pastors cannot—and should not—have to build it all alone.

That is why Dr. Lila and Reverend Marvin Stephenson partner with churches through Kingdom Marriage & Family Alliance (KM-FA) to help create intentional, biblically grounded, emotionally safe environments where couples and families can grow, reconnect, and receive appropriate support.

Trauma-Informed Ministry Training

Equip Leaders to Care Without Causing Further Harm

Churches are often among the first places people turn when marriages are struggling, trauma has occurred, abuse is disclosed, or a family is in crisis.

Pastors and ministry leaders do not need to become therapists.

But they do need to know how to respond wisely.

KM-FA provides trauma-informed training for pastors, ministry leaders, marriage facilitators, couple mentors, and care teams to help churches create safer, more informed ministry environments.

Training may include:

  • understanding how trauma can affect relationships, communication, intimacy, trust, and spiritual life
  • recognizing common trauma responses without diagnosing
  • responding appropriately when someone discloses abuse, sexual trauma, betrayal, or other painful experiences
  • understanding the difference between ministry support and clinical treatment
  • recognizing when professional referral is needed
  • avoiding language or interventions that may unintentionally shame, pressure, or retraumatize
  • maintaining healthy ministry boundaries
  • supporting couples when trauma is affecting the marriage
  • understanding domestic violence, coercive control, and relationship safety concerns
  • developing referral pathways with qualified mental health and community professionals
  • creating emotionally and spiritually safer ministry environments

The goal is not to turn ministry leaders into clinicians.

The goal is to equip leaders to recognize, respond, support, and refer responsibly.

Marriage Leader & Facilitator Training

Equip the People Who Serve Your Couples

Healthy marriage ministry requires more than willing volunteers.

Leaders need practical preparation for the conversations and situations they may encounter while serving couples.

Training can help marriage ministry leaders and couple mentors understand:

  • healthy ministry boundaries
  • facilitating meaningful couple conversations
  • creating emotionally, spiritually, and relationally safe environments
  • recognizing signs that a couple may need professional intervention
  • supporting couples without attempting to provide therapy
  • responding appropriately to trauma or abuse disclosures
  • recognizing relationship safety concerns
  • understanding when joint marriage work may not be appropriate
  • implementing marriage curriculum effectively
  • making responsible referrals
  • maintaining confidentiality within appropriate ministry boundaries

Trauma-informed principles are integrated throughout leader and facilitator development so ministry teams are better prepared to serve couples with wisdom, compassion, and appropriate boundaries.

Marriage Ministry Development & Consulting

Whether you are starting a marriage ministry or strengthening an existing one, KM-FA can help your leadership team develop a more intentional and sustainable strategy.

Consultation may include:

  • ministry vision and purpose
  • annual programming
  • curriculum selection and development
  • premarital ministry structure
  • couples enrichment pathways
  • lay-leader development
  • facilitator and trauma-informed training
  • referral protocols
  • relationship-safety procedures
  • boundaries between ministry, coaching, and counseling
  • couples-event strategy
  • partnerships with qualified clinical and community resources
  • ministry evaluation and continuous improvement

The goal is not simply to create more events.

It is to help build a marriage-strengthening ministry system that is biblically grounded, relationally effective, trauma-informed, and equipped to respond responsibly when couples need additional care.

Ministry Services vs. Clinical Services

We believe clarity protects both couples and churches.

Kingdom Marriage & Family Alliance provides:

  • marriage education
  • workshops
  • retreats
  • coaching
  • ministry consulting
  • leader training
  • speaking
  • curriculum and marriage-ministry development

These services are educational, developmental, and ministry-focused and do not establish a psychotherapy relationship.

Make A Better Marriage, PLLC provides Dr. Lila Stephenson’s licensed clinical services, including:

  • couples therapy
  • sex therapy
  • trauma-informed psychotherapy
  • clinical premarital counseling
  • clinical marriage intensives

Psychotherapy is provided only to eligible clients physically located in jurisdictions where Dr. Lila is legally authorized to practice.
